Job summary

Ruth Wagstaff Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to support the leadership and operation of a busy international restaurant in Berlin. The role reports to the General Manager and requires strong front-line hospitality experience and bilingual German/English communication.

You will drive guest satisfaction, maintain service standards, support recruitment and team development, and help implement commercial and operational initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in hospitality, including hands-on restaurant or front-line operations.
• Experience in a high-volume restaurant, cafe, bar, branded dining concept, or similar customer-facing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Business, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or related discipline preferred.
• Previous experience supervising or managing teams is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of guest service, operational standards, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Support the General Manager with the effective day-to-day operation of the restaurant.
• Lead by example across front-of-house and back-of-house operations.
• Maintain high standards of service, product quality, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
• Support the implementation of company policies, procedures, and operational initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure consistent delivery and strong communication.
• Coach, motivate, and develop managers and team members.
• Help identify operational challenges and recommend practical solutions.
• Contribute to achieving financial, commercial, staffing, and guest-experience objectives.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee engagement.
• Respond professionally to guest feedback and help resolve issues effectively.
• Take responsibility for the operation in the General Manager's absence.
