Title: Enrichment and Neurodiversity Coordinator

Summary of Function:

The Enrichment and Neurodiversity Coordinator is responsible for facilitating learning and well-being through specialized educational programs for students from Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. The Enrichment and Neurodiversity Coordinator provides direction to the Neurodiversity Lead, Teachers and Intervention Workers. The incumbent discusses student problems and progress with parents to ensure constant communication about the child’s development and will work closely with the Methods and Resources Department.

Job Duties:

• Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.
• Reads each individual child’s files in his/her class and is knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
• Observes children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
• Provides assistance with participation as necessary.
• Interacts with the children and encourages their involvement in activities where appropriate.
• Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
• Plans, prepares, and implements daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
• Provides overall supervision of the Neurodiversity Leads and Intervention Workers.
• Keeps a “portfolio” of each child’s progress, including samples of their artwork, writing, etc.
• Maintains good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes and/or verbally.
• Supervises, trains and utilizes assistant educator’s skills and abilities.
• Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
• Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
• Maintains adherence to all AGS policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
• Selects books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the early childhood program.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related field.
• Must be willing to take Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.
• Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.
• Must provide a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.
• Mi’gmaq/French language is considered an asset.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification or must be willing to take training.
