Job description

ANIDA is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Food Security & Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. Our local food bank program currently serves approximately 1000 individuals and families each month in Toronto and Ottawa, relying on the efforts of over 50 volunteers each week. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about community service and program delivery to make a meaningful impact.

The Food Security & Volunteer Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food bank services by leading, motivating, and coordinating volunteers and student participants. The primary focus of this role is to effectively manage the volunteer team, providing training and guidance to maintain program consistency and efficiency. Key volunteer tasks include receiving food donations, assembling food hampers for families, and assisting clients both in person and through a monthly home delivery service for seniors living in low-income housing. Additionally, the coordinator will support ANIDA's Community Garden initiative, a seasonal program designed to engage volunteers and community members in maintaining a vegetable garden.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and leadership skills, enabling effective collaboration with clients, community partners, and team members. They should be comfortable taking on leadership roles, coordinating volunteers to fulfill program objectives, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct volunteer recruitment, follow-ups, orientations, and onboarding processes.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules and ensure clear, consistent communication.
  • Serve clients both in person and through the senior home delivery service.
  • Receive and manage weekly food donations from individuals and community partners.
  • Assemble food hampers and determine appropriate allocations based on family sizes and needs.
  • Enforce food safety protocols, including monitoring fridge/freezer temperatures and implementing a first-in, first-out model.
  • Work closely with partnering agency support staff to create a welcoming environment for adult clients with disabilities.
  • Support program visibility by capturing photos and videos for social media updates.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating the Senior Care Program, ensuring monthly food package deliveries are organized and executed effectively.
  • Complete monthly reports on program activities, volunteer contributions, and liquidation assessments.
  • If active, lead the planning and implementation of the Community Garden program, including participating in grant-related activities.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in program coordination, volunteer management, and community outreach within a vibrant, mission-driven organization. If you are passionate about community service and thrive in a dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you.

Applicants should meet the following requirements :

  • Good people and communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Respect and ability to work well with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Own a computer to bring to the office for work.
  • Hold a full Canadian driver’s license and be comfortable driving a company vehicle.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or food bank network is an asset.
  • Experience organizing volunteers and acting in a leadership role is an asset.

Benefits you will receive from working with us :

  • Opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and be part of a fun, dynamic team that enjoys giving back to the community.
  • Build connections with community partners and agencies.
  • Opportunity to be mentored and gain insight into the inner workings of a reputable, accredited nonprofit organization by Imagine Canada.

Start Date : May 19th, 2025 (or as soon as available)

Employment Type : Part-time (28 hours/week), Permanent

Hourly Wage : $22/hour

Shifts : Monday-Thursday, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, with Wednesday shifts from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm.
