ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently hiring a results-oriented Facility Operator to join our Hydro Renewables team. Reporting directly to the Manager, Asset Hydro, you will operate, maintain, and coordinate day-to-day activities, and contribute to long-term asset management. The role ensures the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of our Small Hydro plant at Bone Creek, British Columbia.
This position is based at our Bone Creek facility, near Blue River, approximately 90 km south of Valemount, BC. The successful candidate must reside within a 45-minute drive, as this is an onsite role requiring regular presence.
This is a permanent, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Pre-employment testing is required.
Relocation assistance may be provided for the right candidate.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Ensure compliance with TransAlta’s operating model
- Manage routine operations and maintenance planning/execution, collaborating with engineering and support groups
- Provide recommendations based on equipment condition and performance
- Supervise contractors supporting maintenance and operations
- Optimize outage schedules to minimize lost production and maximize revenue, collaborating with water management and stakeholders
- Implement emergency response exercises
- Adhere to hydro procedures and safe work practices
- Perform dam safety checks, readings, and measurements, reporting to Dam Safety team
- Ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met
- Foster a collaborative work environment with team and stakeholders
- Uphold TransAlta values and maintain stakeholder relations
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Journeyman Electrical Ticket
- 3-5 years relevant experience
- Knowledge of industrial construction, maintenance, and power generation
- Understanding of hydro conveyance systems and regulations
- High voltage switching and instrumentation experience (asset)
- Technical knowledge of power assets
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft and SAP
- Ability to work on-call up to 50% of the year
- Willing to travel up to 20%
- Valid driver’s license
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Successful pre-employment testing completion is required.
