SUMMARY: The incumbent is responsible for direct client intervention, conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, consultation, providing therapeutic programming, and caregiver training.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Occupational Therapist include, but are not limited to:

Assessment

  1. Completes occupational therapy assessments with referred clients to identify strengths and needs;
  2. Utilizes standardized testing (if necessary) as a component of the assessment process.

Direct Service and Treatment

  1. Provides direct occupational therapy services as needed to assist clients in gaining skills for everyday life, school, and relationships;
  2. Supports clients to identify and work toward realistic goals;
  3. Manages client caseload and prioritizes appropriately;
  4. Meets regularly with the clinical team for collaboration and planning;
  5. Assesses the need for therapeutic groups and implements accordingly;
  6. Assists the team in problem-solving to address client issues;
  7. Facilitates topic-specific training sessions as needed;
  8. Assists with service navigation and referral to community resources as needed.

Continuity of Care

  1. Engages caregivers and care team in the assessment and treatment process;
  2. Attends staff meetings and contributes to the overall functioning of the agency by assuming appropriate additional responsibilities as needed;
  3. Maintains appropriate clinical documentation and fulfills administrative duties;
  4. Shares relevant information with and provides consultation to collateral agencies such as Child and Family Service Agencies and schools;
  5. Works within the context of the interdisciplinary team to implement direct, consultative or medicated models of service.

Professional Development

  1. Maintains professional development by attending workshops, reading, and clinical consultation on a regular basis;
  2. Meets the yearly licensing requirements of the College of Occupational Therapists in Manitoba;
  3. Performs all duties professionally, ethically and with integrity;
  4. Familiarizes themselves with social policy, issues, trends and practices in the field, as well as needs, gaps or opportunities that may improve the lives of persons with youth/children, or which promote social justice, equality or accessibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Baccalaureate or Clinical Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy;
  2. Registration is required with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM) with the incumbents name entered in the practicing register or the provisional register as an examination candidate. Where the incumbent is provisionally registered as an examination candidate, they must pass the examination required by COTM during the next available exam offering to maintain employment with The Link;
  3. Expertise in the area of child and adolescent mental health;
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  5. Ability to work as a team member and cooperatively with other disciplines;
  6. Ability to practice independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision;
  7. Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice;
  8. Current certification in either DLE (The Purposeful Use of Daily Life Events) or TCS (Therapeutic Crisis Solutions) or willingness to obtain the same;
  9. Current First-aid/CPR certification;
  10. ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and De-escalation training or willingness to obtain the same;
  11. Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check.

**Valid drivers license and use of personal vehicle is a requirement for this position**

**Position may require some evenings/weekends to meet needs of children/youth**

PREFERRED

  1. Experience working with children/adolescents and their families;
  2. Knowledge of the child welfare system in Manitoba;
  3. Knowledge of Indigenous customs, beliefs, and practices.

SALARY RANGE: $34.00 to $35.00 hourly, depending on qualification. Includes vacation, paid sick leave, benefit plan and pension plan.

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week.
