Property Risk Engineering Consultant (Remote)

WTW
Birmingham
Remote
GBP 40,000 - 60,000
Job description

If you’re an Engineer or other technical professional working in industry, have you considered transferring your knowledge and expertise to the world of commercial risk management & insurance?

WTW is one of the world’s largest commercial insurance brokers, looking after the risk management & insurance needs of commercial & industrial clients of all types, globally. A critical component of this is Property Risk Engineering.

Our technical experts visit client facilities to help them understand and mitigate their property and business interruption risks. They consider risk features such as process hazards, construction, fire protection, emergency response, hazardous materials, management controls, maintenance, utilities & services, natural catastrophe (flood, windstorm etc.) and business continuity management. They write detailed reports and recommendations that help clients understand and improve their risk, and help our broking colleagues find the best insurance solutions for them.

We are looking for an individual with the right aptitude, enthusiasm and transferrable skills to join our team of risk engineering professionals in GB. If you have had prior exposure to (or experience in) property loss control or risk management, that would be an advantage but we will provide the mentoring, training and support to help you make the transition to this exciting and rewarding new direction.

Experience in the following sectors may be a particular advantage:

•Facilities Management (particularly Leisure & Hospitality or Real Estate)
•Food & Drink Manufacturing
•Utilities (particularly water)
•Fire Protection / Fire Engineering
•Loss Management / Adjusting

This role will be offered on a Remote basis and so we welcome applicants from any locations across the UK.

The Role

• Carry out Property Damage and Business Interruption risk surveys of commercial and industrial facilities, evaluating hazards & controls and loss estimates, and making risk improvement recommendations. Capture information & data and produce detailed reports.
• Co-ordinate and manage multi-site survey programmes, analyse findings and produce stewardship reports.
• Provide technical support to clients including project/plan review, implementation of risk improvement recommendations, development of corporate standards and ad hoc queries.
• Communicate effectively with our clients, to help them understand their challenges and industry best practices and assist them in implementing pragmatic solutions, where appropriate
• Work with Willis client teams to help identify Property Risk Engineering needs, maximise support to clients and optimise their standing with insurers.
• Maintain knowledge of the proposition and key services of the 5 other Willis Risk Management Practice areas to help identify client needs in these areas.
• Liaise with Risk Engineering / Loss Control and other representatives from insurers to ensure their reasonable requests and expectations are met, and that the reputation of Willis and our clients remains high in the insurance market
• Provide excellent support to clients and colleagues and achieve key departmental KPIs of quality, timeliness & productivity.
• Contribute to Willis thought leadership by contributing to or writing insight pieces, maintaining personal professional development and representing the department &/or company at meetings, events etc.

Qualifications

The Requirements

• Engineer or other technical professional with at least 5 years’ experience working in industry
• Degree level calibre, preferably with a recognised and relevant technical qualification.
• Additional credentials such as membership of a professional institution (engineering or otherwise) would be recognised but is not essential.

• Knowledge &/or experience of one or more of the following:

- Property loss control, risk engineering or risk management
- Fixed fire protection or fire engineering; design, or management of installation &/or maintenance
- Site-level engineering management, especially with multi-discipline responsibilities
- Engineering project management, especially with risk assessment/management responsibilities
- Hazard studies or complex risk assessments relating to property risk / asset protection in an industrial context (not just health & safety risk assessments or fire risk assessments for compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order)
- Investigation &/or management of property and business interruption losses/claims
- Facilities management

• Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
• Self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels – from site operatives up to company CEOs.
• Client focused.
• Ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature, which are accurate, concise and show good attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to support and motivate both less and highly experienced colleagues.
• Basic understanding of AI / GenAI technology and how it can be used to support the risk management process and drive efficiencies.
• Full UK driving licence.

At WTW, we believe difference makes us stronger. We want our workforce to reflect the different and varied markets we operate in and to build a culture of inclusivity that makes colleagues feel welcome, valued and empowered to bring their whole selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive work environment throughout our organisation. We embrace all types of diversity.
