Daily Beast Breaking News Reporter, Weekend (Remote)

Are you a news obsessive? The Daily Beast is expanding its global team to deliver breaking news on weekends. We’re looking for freelance journalists with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Trump and a fascination with Fox News. You will be based outside the U.S. to help deliver news to our U.S. audience around the clock. You are an all-rounder who is on top of U.S. politics, global news, media and pop culture, with a deep understanding of American culture, preferably having lived in the U.S., or a track record of working for American publications. We are recruiting part-time reporters who will cover weekend shifts.

• Identify and pitch stories that matter to our audience and write intelligent, exciting copy with a punchy attitude that separates us from other outlets.
• Collaborate with editors and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage and bring fresh ideas and angles that can further a story.
• Produce clean, concise and accurate copy in a breaking news environment that requires a fast pace and can-do attitude.
• Locate original sources for stories and be comfortable making calls, creating sources and conducting interviews if necessary.
• Adapt to new CMS and systems to improve the reader experience.
• Write across topics including U.S. politics, world news, entertainment and media.
• Identify news outlets worthy of checking for scoops on shift.
• Be fluent across various social media platforms.
• Understand and apply The Daily Beast’s voice and dynamic tone.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in news reporting.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Pay range: $360 per shift.
