Compensation
Effective September 1, 2024 - $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2024 - $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.
Duties
Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty). Successful candidate is expected to work closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position have changed since it was last posted.
1. Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in French studies with a specialization in Canadian French Literature and/or publications in the field, and a record of sustained successful teaching of upper-year courses in French at a University level. Native or near native fluency in English and French. Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French.
2. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references. Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision. Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking. Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams.
3. Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required. Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
4. Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures). Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams.
