As we continue to expand our network, increase flight frequencies, and introduce more services, we’re looking for passionate team members to help us in our mission to make air travel accessible for everyone. We know who we are, and we’re confident in our approach—but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Your Team

Join Flair’s Flight Operations team, where safety, reliability, and operational discipline guide every decision. The Director of Dispatch is responsible for overseeing the Flight Dispatch department and ensuring all dispatch operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. This role provides leadership, direction, and strategic oversight to ensure the Dispatch team has the tools, resources, and training required to support safe and on‑time operations. The Director focuses on optimizing performance, reducing operational costs (CASM), and strengthening flight reliability across the network.

This position is based on-site at our Edmonton (YEG) office.

A Day In The Life

The duties of the Director of Dispatch include:

  • Ensure that all Flight Dispatchers maintain safety as their primary objective by adhering to the Company Safety Policy and using the appropriate safety reporting programs to identify and communicate hazards and risks across the organization.
  • Supervise the development, publication, and ongoing maintenance of dispatch manuals to ensure they remain current and compliant.
  • Address individual performance issues by following established performance management practices and documentation standards.
  • Manage fuel efficiency through effective flight planning and support corporate fuel initiatives in collaboration with the Chief Pilot and Finance.
  • Issue bulletins and memos as required to ensure policies and procedures support a safe, efficient, and compliant operation.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Dispatcher, Technical on the implementation, optimization, and enhancement of Flight Dispatch systems and related technologies.
  • Liaise with existing vendors regarding product development, defect resolution, and future improvements that support Flair’s business model and operational needs.
  • Plan and execute short‑ and long‑term projects designed to improve safety, reduce CASM, and enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Dispatcher, Training to ensure a high standard of training and full compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Monitor and forecast manpower requirements based on fleet expansion and operational changes; issue monthly rosters and ensure adequate shift coverage in line with absence requests and operational needs.
  • Develop, document, and implement processes with internal and external stakeholders to support consistent and effective dispatch operations.
  • Represent Flair at vendor conferences, industry forums, and working groups as required.
  • Coordinate with Flight Operations Management regarding changes to regulations and industry standards that affect Dispatch and ensure all relevant changes are communicated to the Dispatch department.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Bring To The Role

The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values: honesty, efficiency, accountability, and respect, while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:

  • Education:
    • Post‑secondary education in Aviation, Aviation Management, Business, or a related field is preferred.
    • Flight Dispatcher Certificate (Transport Canada), in accordance with CARs, is required.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of direct experience as a Flight Dispatcher is required.
    • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of flight dispatch experience in a CARs 705 environment operating under a Type A or Type B operational control system is required.
    • Previous leadership experience in a Dispatch or operational control environment, preferably in the role of Chief Dispatcher or equivalent, is required.
    • Demonstrated experience leading teams in a 24/7 operational environment, including managing staffing, performance, and operational decision‑making.
    • Proven experience working with regulatory requirements, company manuals, and operational control policies, including CARs 705.
    • Experience leading or supporting projects related to system implementation, process improvement, fuel efficiency, or operational performance is considered an asset.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, mentor, and support a team in a 24/7 operational environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, accurately, and professionally to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility, maintain effective working relationships, and collaborate across multiple departments.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, and make informed decisions that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance.
    • Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
    • Proven ability to remain composed, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions during high‑pressure or time‑sensitive situations.
