Job summary

Stantec’s growing Environmental Services team is seeking a Water Resources or Hydrotechnical EIT to join our Whitehorse, YT office. By joining our team, you would work as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts that provide water resources solutions for clients in the government, mining, industrial, and transportation sectors throughout Northern Canada and British Columbia. You would have the opportunity to apply surface water analyses and principles of natural systems with current engineering approaches on a number of drainage/stormwater management, river engineering, river ice, flood mapping and mitigation, fish habitat design projects across Canada, with a focus on the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and northern British Columbia.

Your Key Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a Water Resources or Hydrotechnical EIT specializing in surface waterto join our team in ourWhitehorse,YToffice. This role will be involved in a variety of projects related to water resources engineering in a dynamic design team setting. You will report directly to the Project Manager or Team Lead for the Whitehorse Water Resources team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare, participate in and/or lead field programs required for hydrologic or climatic data collection and monitoring programs.
  • Addressing northern-specific challenges to transportation infrastructure (permafrost, aufeis blockages, ice roads)
  • Assist with watershed characterization studies, flood plain mapping, environmental impact assessments, coastal and river engineering, and channel design projects
  • Conduct water-related field surveys including flow measurements, and topographic/bathymetric surveys using a variety of instruments
  • Conduct data management and analysis tasks related to collected field data
  • Assist with hydrologic modelling and frequency analyses using a variety of software programs
  • Assist with 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling
  • Assist with development of a variety of surface water designs, including stormwater management and drainage design, channel realignment/stream restoration, flood mitigation design, culvert/bridge crossing design, and construction phase water management and erosion and sediment control plans
  • Assist with preparation of detailed design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Experience

  • High levels of self-motivation and personal accountability for assigned tasks are of paramount importance
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-first attitude.
  • Ability to develop clear and comprehensive technical reports documenting field investigations, analytical findings, and interpretations
  • Ability to contribute to proposal development and assist in creating work plans, project schedules, and budgets, while managing assigned projects and tasks
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn various hydrologic, hydraulic, and civil field instruments (e.g., level and rod, total station, RTK GPS, flow meter, YSI water quality samplers) and software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, Aquarius)
  • Basic understanding of GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro
  • Willingness to travel to project locations within northern Canada and BC to perform fieldwork

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources or Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 0-3 years of experience in surface water engineering and/or civil engineering
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers Yukon or Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia within twelve months.
  • Previous experience in consulting industry or working in Northern Canada in cold climate challenges considered an asset.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to project locations within Northern Canada and BC for fieldwork.

This position consists of a mix of time spent in the field and in an office environment. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency:In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
