The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one’s field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.

Functions and Duties

Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:

• Instructional (teaching assignments)
• Course and program preparation and revision
• Student contact
• Student advising
• Evaluation and marking of student work
• Other functions related to instruction

Professional duties may include any or all of the following:

• Curriculum development
• Student registration
• Pre-registration duties

Service may include any or all of the following:

• School visitations
• Participation on OC committees
• Attendance at articulation meetings
• Representing OC at other functions
• Administrative and other duties

Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Education and Experience

1. Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.

2. An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.

3. An Instructor’s Diploma or valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

4. Six to ten years recent relevant experience.

Position End Date (if temporary): 06/30/2026

Schedule: Given on‑call nature of position, schedule, campus location, and frequency of instruction may vary.
Typical instructional day: 7.5 hours long. Typical instructional week: four days and would not exceed 30 hours.

Initial on‑call contract is setup until Jun 30, 2026 but is not a guarantee of work for the entire contract period.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate: Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 annually; normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
