Job summary

Securiguard Services Ltd. is seeking a Task Force Officer to join our security team in the Toronto area. This full-time role involves patrolling retail environments, deterring theft, and coordinating with local law enforcement to manage incidents.

The position requires a valid Ontario Security Guard License, First Aid & CPR, Use of Force training, and at least two years in loss prevention or supervisory security roles. Travel across Toronto & GTA is expected.

Qualifications

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License and First Aid & CPR Certification required.
• Use of Force training and experience is mandatory.
• Minimum two years in a loss prevention security role or equivalent supervisory/tactical experience with strong customer service.
• In-house retail loss prevention experience is an asset.
• Experience identifying/deterring shoplifters as needed.
• Skilled in apprehending shoplifters and processing arrests with evidence preservation.
• Ability to assess/execute authorized arrests.
• Experience liaising with guards and local law enforcement as required.
• Proficient in completing incident reports and filing police reports when necessary.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between Toronto & GTA locations.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and travel.
• Background in military/police/law enforcement is an asset.
• Educational background in Police Foundations, Criminology, or Protection, Security & Investigation is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Detect theft or other criminal acts and process through local police, coordinating with the security team for coverage.
• Regularly monitor CCTV systems and inspect premises to identify security breaches.
• Provide emergency support to store management and staff during incidents (fires, medical, security threats).
• Prepare comprehensive incident reports, documenting arrests, evidence collection, and follow-up details.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirement

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License and First Aid & CPR Certification required.
• Use of Force training and experience is mandatory.
• Minimum two years of experience in a loss prevention security role, preferably in plain clothes retail loss prevention or minimum two years of experience as a Supervisor/Tactical Guard in a HealthCare, Armed Guard, Respite Shelter, Mall/Retail, Gov't, Campus environment with strong customer service skills and a solid understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada and relevant provincial laws.
• In-house retail loss prevention experience is an asset.
• Prior experience in identifying and deterring potential shoplifters as needed.
• Skilled in apprehending shoplifters, processing arrests, and preserving evidence, including video footage.
• Strong ability to assess and execute authorized arrests is essential.
• Experience liaising with regular service guards and local law enforcement as required.
• Proficient in completing and submitting incident reports to the Resource Protection database and filing online police reports when necessary.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between retail locations in Toronto & GTA.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and travel across assigned sites as needed.
• Background in military, police, or law enforcement is an asset.
• Educational background in Police Foundations, Criminology, or Protection, Security & Investigation is an asset.

The Day To Day

Each shift you will make a difference by maintaining the safety and security of the retail environment by conducting surveillance and deterring theft and criminal activity. Working discreetly among customers, you will remain vigilant for any signs of suspicious behavior or unauthorized activity. Your role involves:

• Detecting and apprehending individuals involved in theft or other criminal acts, adhering to legal and procedural guidelines when processing them through the local police service. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with your security team to ensure effective coverage and response to security concerns.
• Regularly monitoring CCTV systems and conducting thorough inspections of the premises are also key responsibilities to help identify and prevent security breaches.
• Provide emergency support to store management and staff during incidents such as fires, medical emergencies, or security threats, prioritizing the safety of all individuals on-site.
• Prepare comprehensive incident reports, documenting arrests, evidence collection, and other critical details for legal or operational follow-up.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by directorial or managerial leadership.

Training

Completion of Use of Force Training and Lawful Subject Restraint, and Crisis Management training are requirements for this role, and also require annual recertification. The training is provided to new employees for this role, along with Securiguard University Orientations courses for skill development.
