Job summary

Yellowknife Education District No. 1 invites applications for the position of High School Physical Education Teacher at Ecole Sir John Franklin High School, Grades 9 to 12, for a full-time term to January 27, 2027. This role includes a Career-Life Education Class.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Education and NWT Teacher Certification; preference for kinesiology/physical education, competency-based learning, and collaboration in a team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education Degree and NWT Teacher Certification required
• Preference for a degree in kinesiology or physical education
• Experience teaching at the secondary level
• Understanding of competency-based education, UDL, backwards design and triangulation of evidence of learning
• Original Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated within 90 days prior to application; a condition of employment

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Education Degree and NWT Teacher Certification.

Preference will be given to candidate who have:

A degree in kinesiology or physical education

An understanding of competency based education

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Experience teaching at the Secondary level

Understanding of universal design for learning

Understanding of backwards design

Understanding of triangulation of evidence of learning

Candidates must have an original acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) in place. The original VSC must be dated within 90 days of the date theapplication is received. This is a condition of employment, and must be inplace prior to commencing work in any school.
