Job summary

Yellowknife Education District No. 1 is seeking Education Assistants for Ecole William McDonald Middle School for the 2026/2027 school year. Up to 4 full-time positions are available to support students from JK to Grade 12 with diverse needs.

Preferred qualifications include an education diploma, experience with complex needs, and ability to assist with intimate care, regulation, and behavioral support. Fluency in French is an asset; a vulnerable sector check is required prior to employment.

Qualifications

• Education support experience with students or youth with complex needs.
• Ability to work with non-verbal students and communicate effectively.
• Experience in providing regulation support and behavioural intervention.
• Willingness to provide intimate care, toileting and feeding support as needed.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Up to 4 Full-time (1.0) Positions

Preferred qualifications include:

• Early Childhood Education Diploma or Teaching Assistant Diploma preferred
• Experience working with students or youth with complex needs
• Ability to work and communicate with non-verbal students
• Ability to provide regulation support and behavioural intervention
• Ability and willingness to provide intimate care, toileting, and feeding support for students
• Experience and/or training in education environments
• Ablity to physically support students, these positions can be physically challenging
• Proven ability to work independently
• Patience and experience working with children with unexpected behaviours
• The ability to be flexible/adaptable and committed to contributing to the wider school community
• Experience in working as part of a collaborative team and possess strong communication skills
• Show initiative and flexibility in working with students from JK to Grade 12.
• High School Diploma
• Clear Criminal Record Check
• Trained in First Aid and CPR
• Ability to speak French would be considered an asset
