Job summary

LASIK MD in Barrie, ON seeks a Surgical Assistant for a temporary mandate, approx. 32 hours per week. You will support ophthalmic procedures and patient care, joining a team of specialists dedicated to improving eyesight.

The role requires excellent English communication, empathy, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced operating room. Travel to other clinics is covered by Vision Group. You will benefit from a supportive culture, exposure to leading ophthalmology practices, and

Qualifications

• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to travel to other LASIK MD clinics.
• Comfortable with computers; knowledge of EMR systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Sterilize instruments and set up tools as needed.
• Reassure patients before and after their procedure and show empathy.
• Explain post-operative eye drop schedule to patients.
• Coordinate the flow of patients in and out of the operating room.
• Work on your feet in the operating room and area.
• Maintain meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Collaborate with a team to coordinate each intervention.
• Support Risk Management by reporting safety concerns promptly.

The wage range for this role is between $19.98 - $22.98/hr.

Your tasks at a glance

• You sterilize instruments and set up tools as needed.
• You reassure patients before and after their procedure and ensure they feel at ease showing empathy.
• You clearly explain the post-operative medication (eye drops) schedule to patients.
• You coordinate the flow of patients in and out of the operating room.
• You are comfortable working on your feet in the operating room and within the operating room area.
• You are a stickler for details and work with precision and accuracy.
• You like working in a team and know by heart the actions to take to coordinate each intervention.
• You support the organization’s Risk Management program by identifying and promptly reporting patient safety concerns, incidents, or potential risks to clinic management, to assist in the organization’s overall efforts to identify, report, and mitigate risks

• You have a definite interest in the field of health and in helping others.
• You are comfortable with computers, technology, and Microsoft 365 (knowledge of EMR systems is an asset).
• Your experience in the healthcare field is considered an asset (Optometric Assistant, Orderly, Dental Assistant, Pharmacy Lab Technician, Sterilization Assistant, Animal Health Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Medical Device Reprocessing Technician, etc.)
• You can travel to other clinics for training (expenses covered by Vision Group).
• Schedule: You are flexibly availablity to work Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
