Job summary

Bird Nason Contracting Group is seeking a highly skilled Structural Steel Foreperson with strong fabrication experience in a shop setting. The ideal candidate will excel in blueprint reading, pipe fitting, troubleshooting drawings, and leading by example.

You will mentor journeypersons and apprentices, perform accurate pipe layout and fitting for high-volume fabrication projects, and read and interpret complex blueprints and isometrics with precision.

Responsibilities

• Mentor Journeypersons and Apprentices.
• Perform accurate pipe layout and fitting for high-volume fabrication projects.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, isometrics, and fabrication drawings with precision.
• Identify and resolve potential issues in drawings before fabrication begins.
• Thread, bevel, and prepare pipe as required.
• Safely operate overhead cranes for material movement and fabrication handling.
• Assist with shipping preparation, pipe loading, and organizing fabricated spools for delivery.
• Work collaboratively with welders, apprentices, and shop crew to maintain efficient shop flow.
• Mentor and guide apprentices as needed.
• Maintain safe work practices and uphold shop standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

Position Details

Nason Contracting Group Ltd. is currently seeking a highly skilled Structural Steel Foreperson with strong fabrication experience in a shop setting, proven high-volume production ability, and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will excel in blueprint reading, pipe fitting, troubleshooting drawings, and leading by example.

• Schedule Rotation: Monday to Friday * Night Shift

What You Will Be Working On

• Mentor Journeypersons and Apprentices
• Perform accurate pipe layout and fitting for high-volume fabrication projects.

• Read and interpret complex blueprints, isometrics, and fabrication drawings with precision.

• Identify and resolve potential issues in drawings before fabrication begins.

• Safely operate overhead cranes for material movement, loading trailers, and fabrication handling.

• Assist with shipping preparation, pipe loading, and organizing fabricated spools for delivery.

• Work collaboratively with welders, apprentices, and shop crew to maintain efficient shop flow.

• Mentor and guide apprentices as needed.

• Maintain safe work practices and uphold shop standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

What We Are Looking For

• CSTS 2020
• WHMIS 2015
• Valid Driver's License (not GDL)
• Journeyperson Pipefitter certification (Red Seal/recognized trade ticket required).

• Proven fabrication shop experience; field background considered if shop skills are strong.

• Exceptional blueprint and isometric reading skills with the ability to identify errors.

• Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed production fitting targets.

• Familiarity with pipe threading and shop equipment.

• Overhead crane experience with safe rigging/handling practices.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Commitment to quality, safety, and teamwork.
• Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
• The ability to lift, carry and handle weight up to 50lbs
• Must be organized, self-driven, and have ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
