  • Hands-on experience working in computer lab environments.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our Computer and Control Design team in the role of Software Engineer.

Reporting to the Manager Engineering, this position is responsible to develop, test, and maintain high-quality computing software and systems, including programming in Assembly language (PDP11 MACRO-11), C language and managing Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) software, ensuring compliance with software governance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Programming with Assembly Language: Design, develop, and maintain software using MACRO-11 Assembly programming language to meet system requirements and ensure operational functionality.
  • Digital Controller Coding: Create, modify, and troubleshoot programming for computers and digital controllers, ensuring seamless integration with system operations while ensuring nuclear software program governance standards.
  • Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC): Manage, implement, and enhance Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) software to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
  • Software Testing and Functional Analysis: Develop and execute software test requirements, test cases, and perform functional analysis to validate and verify software performance and reliability.
  • Software Development Tools and Simulators: Utilize software development tools and system emulation simulators to design, test, and refine computing systems and applications.
  • Preparation of Design Documentation: Prepare comprehensive computing software design documents, detailed work plans for installation, and Engineering Change packages to support system updates and improvements.
  • Lab-Based Computing Work: Perform development, testing, and troubleshooting in a computer lab environment, ensuring accurate simulation and validation of software solutions.
  • Understanding of computer architecture, Operating systems, file systems, memory management, digital logic.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
