Job summary

AgeCare in Canada is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop and run meaningful recreation and leisure activities in long-term care. You will promote wellbeing, community, lifelong learning and fun while supporting residents’ skills and personal connections.

Responsibilities include creating engaging spaces, communicating with residents and families, and participating in program evaluation and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or related field.
• Enrolled in a program in recreation and leisure studies or health care with intent to complete within three years.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, planning and implementing daily recreation/activities in home and community.
• Create and maintain engaging spaces/environments to support resident activity.
• Develop and maintain communications with residents, families, volunteers and community groups.
• Observe, report and document changes in residents' ability to participate, update care plans as needed.
• Support departments to foster resident engagement in meaningful ways.
• Lead programs to maximize residents' skills and abilities.
• Participate in ongoing evaluation of recreation programs and quality improvement.
