Job summary

AgeCare in Canada is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop, and run a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure activities that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, and a sense of community for residents in our long-term care homes. You will support resident engagement, document changes, liaise with families and volunteers, and work with other departments to foster participation.

A background with seniors and a diploma or degree in recreation or related fields is preferred, with

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in long-term care.
• Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or related field.
• Enrolled in a program with intent to complete within three years of hire OR health care related degree with applicable recreation services experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and run daily recreation/ leisure activities in home and community.
• Assist in creating engaging spaces/environments that support resident activity and participation.
• Communicate with residents, families, volunteers and community groups; support program operations.
• Observe and document changes in residents' ability to participate and update care plans accordingly.
• Support other departments to foster resident engagement and lead programs to maximize residents' skills.
