Job summary

AgeCare is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop and run meaningful recreation activities for residents in a long-term care setting. The role focuses on wellbeing, community, lifelong learning, and fun, with opportunities to lead and adapt programs for diverse resident needs.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or related field from a community college or university.
• Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field with the intent to successfully complete the program within three years of being hired.
• A post-secondary degree or diploma in a health care related field with demonstrated skills in recreation and leisure services in a health care setting, including planning, development and facilitation of activities across wellness domains.

Responsibilities

• The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits which promotes wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun.
• The Recreation Worker facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.
• Supports all departments in their efforts to foster resident engagement in meaningful ways.
