We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Track Engineer to join our Canadian Rail and Transit team, part of a global Mobility team, to contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of rail and transit infrastructure projects. As part of a dynamic and innovative team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable railway solutions for clients across freight rail, LRT or Subway commuter rail, and port rail projects. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in track design, alignment optimization, system integration, compliance with industry standards, and experience in civil infrastructure, and able to mentor and lead a team of designers and Engineers.

Role accountabilities:

Track Design & Planning:

Develop detailed track design plans, incorporating alignment, curvature, grading, elevation, and system and drainage elements. Optimize layouts for efficiency, safety, and sustainability while adhering to project specifications. Ensure design incorporates special trackwork, turnout, crossovers, storage tracks, etc.

Feasibility Studies & Alignment Assessments:

Conduct feasibility studies and alignment assessments to determine optimal routes for rail and transit systems. Use advanced engineering software and tools to model and analyze alignment options, addressing challenges such as geography, topography, and environmental considerations.

System Integration & Coordination:

Collaborate with designers of other railway subsystems—such as signaling, traction power, systems, civil works, structures, roads, and drainage—to ensure seamless integration and holistic solutions. Coordinate across multiple disciplines to deliver complex projects while addressing technical challenges effectively.

Compliance & Standards:

Ensure all track and alignment designs meet industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines. Stay informed about evolving practices and contribute to the development and refinement of internal standards. Maintain compliance with health and safety laws related to design processes.

Collaboration & Project Delivery:

Work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure track and alignment designs integrate seamlessly into overall project scopes. Supervise and mentor junior designers, ensuring high-quality deliverables. Provide technical expertise during construction phases and resolve design-related issues as needed.

Procurement & Costing:

Finalize specifications for track components, conduct cost estimation, and oversee procurement processes. Assist in preparing bid documents and provide technical guidance to clients during the bidding phase for various projects.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years experience in all aspects of track design, including conceptual and detailed design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada
  • Proven experience in track design and alignment for rail and transit projects
  • Proficiency with engineering software, including Ferrovia, OpenRail Designer, SCARM, Autodesk 3D, MicroStation, Navisworks, is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency, safety, and sustainability
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in complex and dynamic environments
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey design concepts and mentor junior staff
