What you can expect to do here:
As a Senior Technical Manager – Geophysics, you will serve as a senior leader and subject matter expert, responsible for shaping the strategic direction of WSP’s geophysics services across Ontario and beyond. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a track record of delivering complex, high‑impact projects. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, advise executive leadership, and represent WSP externally in client engagements, industry forums, and strategic partnerships.
- Project & Technical Management: Oversee multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring quality, compliance, and profitability across a portfolio of complex, high‑impact projects. Manage geophysical campaigns, proposals, and studies from inception to completion.
- Technical Excellence: Interpret and integrate 2D, 3D, and 4D seismic data, well logs, and core data to build comprehensive subsurface models. Conduct advanced geophysical analyses (e.g., seismic interpretation, AVO analysis, modeling) and geophysical surveys using seismic, electromagnetic, gravity, and magnetic methods.
- Innovation & Collaboration: Drive technological innovation and the development of new geophysical techniques. Collaborate with teams across WSP disciplines (mining, transportation, structural, building, marine; port, rail, energy, environment) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentorship & Talent Development: Mentor and train junior engineers, professionals, and technicians. Contribute to talent development, succession planning, and foster a high‑performance culture focused on quality, innovation, and business excellence.
- Client Engagement & Business Growth: Build and maintain strong client relationships, act as a “seller/doer” by engaging in business development while leading project execution. Identify opportunities, develop strategic proposals, and support key pursuits to drive business growth.
- Quality Assurance & Reporting: Ensure quality control and assurance of geophysical datasets and deliverables. Prepare and contribute to technical reports, opinions, and publications.
- Industry Leadership: Represent WSP in industry associations, technical committees, conferences, and client engagements. Drive thought leadership through publications and strategic initiatives.
- Operational Oversight: Oversee risk management, including contract, fee, and proposal reviews. Support recruitment, engagement, and retention, and communicate vision, strategy, and progress to teams.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geophysics, Geosciences, Geological Engineering, or a related field. Graduate studies and professional registration in your field of practice are considered assets.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of progressive geophysical experience, including at least 5 years in senior technical or leadership roles. Significant experience within earth and environment disciplines in Canadian markets, with direct involvement in managing pursuits, proposals, and complex project portfolios.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in geophysical mapping, detection, and discrimination of subsurface features; experience with AGC (Advanced Geophysical Classification) and DGM (Digital Geophysical Mapping); seismic interpretation and modeling; familiarity with RTK GPS, LiDAR, SLAM, and geophysical sensors (EM61‑MK2, APEX, MetalMapper); strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- Leadership & Strategic Impact: Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor and train junior staff, and deliver project excellence. Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and operational oversight. Strategic thinker with entrepreneurial orientation and experience influencing organizational strategy and driving innovation.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong oral and written proficiency in French is required; English proficiency is an asset.
