Job summary

Parallels is seeking an experienced Product and Compliance Counsel to partner with Product and Engineering on software products. You will guide development with privacy, security, IP, and regulatory considerations, balancing risk with innovation.

You will lead legal reviews for AI features, translate evolving requirements into product criteria, and advise on export controls and cross-border data issues while supporting commercial agreements.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school with active bar membership.
• At least 8 years of legal experience, with 5+ in-house in tech.
• Deep experience in software licensing, security or privacy/data protection.
• Familiarity with export control, sanctions, and trade compliance for global software products.

Responsibilities

• Serve as embedded compliance and product counsel partnering with Product and Engineering early in development.
• Create and operate legal and compliance review processes for software products and AI features.
• Translate evolving AI, privacy, consumer protection, IP, and regulatory requirements into product criteria and certifications.
• Advise on global trade and export control compliance requirements, including sanctions and export classification.
• Protect innovations through patents and IP rights, liaise with outside counsel, and support invention disclosure programs.
• Advise on privacy-sensitive product design, data use and cross-border data flows.
• Assist with security incidents, audits, and compliance reviews to align product with contracts and regulatory commitments.
• Provide guidance on copyright, trademarks, open-source, licensing, data rights, and IP issues in software and AI systems.
• Support customer and commercial matters where product, AI, privacy, data, IP, or security questions affect deals.
