Sr. Corporate Counsel, Product and Compliance

Parallels has an immediate vacancy for this role.

Push the boundaries of tech. In your sweatpants.

Parallels is seeking an experienced Product and Compliance Counsel to serve as a trusted legal partner to our Product and Engineering teams for a portfolio of Parallels software products. This role will provide practical, risk-calibrated guidance across product development, AI governance, privacy, security, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance, helping the business innovate responsibly while supporting its product and commercial objectives.

The top creative and technical minds could work anywhere. So why are so many of them choosing Parallels? Here are three reasons:

  • This is the moment. It’s an exciting time at Parallels, with strong leadership, a refreshed brand, and a whole new approach to changing the way the world works. We’re at the forefront of a movement, and we want you to ride this wave with us.
  • We want you to be you. Too often, companies tell you about their culture and then expect you to fit it. Our culture is built from the people who work here. We want you to feel safe to be who you are, take risks, and show us what you’ve got.
  • It’s your world. We know you have a life. We want to be part of it, but not all of it. At Parallels, we’re serious about empowering people to work when, how, and where they want. Couch? Sweatpants? Cool with us. We believe that happy employees mean happy customers. That’s why we hire amazing people and get out of their way.

Sound good so far? Awesome. Let’s talk more about the Sr. Corporate Counsel role and see if we’re destined to be together.

As a Senior Corporate Counsel, you will:

  • Serve as embedded compliance and product counsel partnering with Product and Engineering teams early in development —during roadmap, design, and testing—to identify legal, regulatory, privacy, IP, and customer trust considerations before they become launch blockers. In addition, you will provide practical, risk-calibrated recommendations that give Product and Engineering clear paths forward.
  • Create and operate legal and compliance review processes for software products and AI features, ensuring that privacy, security, regulatory, intellectual property, and customer trust considerations are addressed throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Translate evolving AI, privacy, consumer protection, IP, and regulatory requirements into product criteria, required third‑party certifications, and monitoring obligations.
  • Advise Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders on global trade and export control compliance requirements, including sanctions and export classification, translating legal requirements into practical product and operational guidance.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and leadership teams to identify, evaluate, and protect innovations through patents and other intellectual property rights, serving as a liaison to outside counsel and helping shape and scale the company's patent and invention disclosure program.
  • Act as a senior legal advisor on privacy‑sensitive product design, data use, retention and deletion, cross‑border data flows, data protection agreements, security commitments, and privacy documentation.
  • Advise cross‑functional stakeholders during security incidents, audits, customer escalations and compliance reviews, helping the business assess legal and operational risks and align product behavior with contractual and regulatory commitments.
  • Advise Product and Engineering on copyright, trademark, patent, open‑source, licensing, data rights, and other IP issues arising from software development and AI systems.
  • Support customer‑facing and commercial matters when product, AI, regulatory, privacy, data, IP, or security questions affect a deal, renewal, expansion, or strategic partnership.
  • Participate in selected customer and prospect conversations as a subject matter expert.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer, partner and vendor agreements, particularly where product, AI, privacy, security intellectual property or compliance issues are involved.
  • Collaborate closely with a small, agile global legal team to provide practical, coordinated support across the business.

What YOU bring to the team:

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership, with substantial legal experience spanning a leading law firm and high‑growth technology company. 8+ years of legal experience preferred with at least 5 of those in‑house.
  • Deep experience in at least one of the following: software licensing, security, or privacy/data protection.
  • Familiarity with export control, sanctions, and trade compliance considerations relevant to global software products, cloud services, and international product distribution.
  • Experience advising on intellectual property strategy, including patents, invention disclosure programs, open‑source software, licensing, trademarks, copyrights, and technology commercialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise on complex, ambiguous matters involving product design, data, emerging AI legislation, intellectual property, security, open source software, and practical commercial risk.
  • Experience building or improving scalable legal programs, including governance frameworks, review processes, playbooks, templates, decision tools, training, or knowledge systems.
  • Ability to translate technical, legal, and regulatory complexity into clear practical guidance.
  • Consistently strong judgment with the ability to balance legal risk, customer trust, product usability, delivery timelines, and company goals; identify difficult decisions; and elevate appropriately.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Solid technical understanding of software licensing, open source software, AI, a challenger approach to the future of legal work, paired with critical thinking, consideration of business context, and ability to find practical solutions.
