Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer / Hydrologist to advance our Mine Water practice in Atlantic Canada. The role focuses on surface water and integrated mine water management, spanning environmental assessment through operations and long-term monitoring.

You will lead technical delivery, modeling, and design for mine water systems, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and regulators to ensure compliant, defensible solutions across projects in Halifax, Fredericton,

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in surface water hydrology and mine water management.
• Demonstrated experience leading development of site-wide water balances and integrated water management strategies.
• Experience with permitting and environmental assessment processes in Atlantic Canada.
• Proficient in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim).
• Experience leading water quality and quantity monitoring programs and interpreting complex datasets.
• Understanding of hydrotechnical design including diversions, ponds, and erosion control.
• Ability to review analyses, identify risks, and develop defensible solutions.
• Strong communication to lead discussions with clients, regulators, and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of mine water management components for mining projects across Atlantic Canada.
• Lead development, calibration, and review of integrated water balance models.
• Direct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support design, risk assessment, and permitting.
• Oversee design and evaluation of water management infrastructure including diversions, ponds, conveyance systems, and drainage networks.
• Lead preparation and review of regulatory submissions and technical documentation.
• Provide technical leadership for water monitoring programs and interpretation of results.
• Contribute to mine closure and reclamation strategies with focus on long-term water management.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water resources into mine design and environmental assessments.
• Engage directly with clients and regulators to communicate technical findings and recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to internal quality processes and high standards of project delivery.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture, particularly for field programs.
