Job summary

Edgewater by Chartwell in Nanaimo North, a brand-new luxury retirement residence, seeks a Food Services Manager to lead culinary and dining teams and ensure exceptional resident experiences. You’ll oversee meals, menus, and service across multiple venues with a focus on safety, quality, and cost control.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, and customer-service skills, plus flexibility for evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of supervisory experience in food service establishments (retirement, healthcare, and/or hospitality).
• At least one year of front-of-house and customer service experience.
• Post-secondary diploma in Food & Beverage Management or equivalent; Red Seal Chef qualifications and Food Service Supervisor certification preferred.
• Valid Food Safe certificate and Serving it Right certificate.
• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
• Highly organized with strong time management abilities.
• Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and scheduling.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations, special diets, and local suppliers is an asset.
• Familiarity with the local community and supplier networks is beneficial.
• Valid Driver’s License, or reliable means of transportation.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of daily meals and special event menus.
• Manage food and beverage operations of the Main Dining Room, Bistro Café and Pub.
• Foster strong relationships with residents and families to enhance satisfaction and resolve concerns.
• Supervise, develop and lead the culinary team and dining staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Manage departmental budgets, optimize purchasing, and monitor food and labour costs.
• Ensure compliance with Chartwell’s policies and health regulations.
• Collaborate with suppliers and corporate partners to maintain high standards of food service.
• Serve as a key member of the management team, contributing to strategic decisions and operational success.
• Schedule is Tuesday-Saturday with some evening and additional weekend coverage.
• Rotate as the Manager on Duty for weekend coverage as needed.
