Job summary

Chartwell Retirement Residences in Canada is seeking a Food Service Manager to lead a dedicated team in delivering high-quality meals and exceptional service to residents. You will oversee daily operations, menu planning, budgeting, staff development, and compliance with food safety standards, while fostering a warm, welcoming dining environment and strong resident relations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in food service.
  • At least one year of front-of-house and customer service experience.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Food & Beverage Management or equivalent; chef qualifications and Food Service Supervisor certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly organized with strong time management abilities.
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and scheduling.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, special diets, and local suppliers is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License, or reliable means of transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of daily and special event menus that meet individual dietary needs.
  • Foster strong relationships with residents and families to enhance satisfaction and resolve concerns.
  • Supervise and develop food services staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, optimize purchasing, and monitor food and labour costs.
  • Ensure compliance with Chartwell’s policies and relevant provincial and health regulations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and corporate partners to maintain high standards of food service.
  • Serve as a key member of the management team, contributing to strategic decisions and operational success.
  • Rotate as the Manager on Duty for weekend coverage as needed.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about creating exceptional dining experiences for seniors? As a Food Service Manager at Chartwell, you will lead a dedicated team to deliver high‑quality meals and outstanding service. Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Must be prepared to respond to emergency situations
  • Some local travel may be required
