Affirm is reinventing credit with a scalable backend platform supporting ML, product, and financial engineering workloads. This remote Canada role focuses on delivering reliable, high-availability compute solutions and leading a team to achieve quarterly goals.

You will collaborate across product, design, and analytics, own key initiatives, and drive architecture with emphasis on quality and ownership.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin for backend development.
• Track record building highly available distributed systems on AWS with MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Familiar with workflow orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi.
• Experience scaling frameworks like Spark/Flink on Kubernetes.
• Ability to propose technical plans for major features with simple, extensible design.
• Strong coding standards and ability to safely modify large codebases.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and owning personal growth.
• Strong written and verbal communication for global collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, mentoring engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics in lifecycle.
• Proactively identify issues and lead resolution.
• Support operations and on-call efforts, monitor metrics.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across the team.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
