We are currently seeking a Senior Architect to join our Toronto Studio to be a part of one of our most prestigious federally regulated projects.
Job Summary
The Senior Architect is asenior professional responsible for leading complex architectural projects fromconcept phases through construction completion. This role combines creativeleadership, technical expertise, and comprehensive project managementresponsibilities. The individual is accountable for managing all projectdelivery phases including scope, schedule, staffing, fees, design quality, andclient engagement. The role also includes oversight of documentation, consultantcoordination, contract administration, and adherence to quality controlstandards. Working closely with firm leadership, this position plays a vitalrole in mentoring staff, fostering studio culture, and supporting continuousimprovement in project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Design + Documentation
- Leadthe design process across all phases, ensuring alignment with clientvision, project goals, and regulatory requirements.
- Overseedevelopment of design and construction documentation, includingspecifications, detailing, and technical packages.
- Leadthe coordination of architectural documentation with consultant teams toensure fully integrated project deliverables.
- Guideand review 3D modeling, hand sketches, and Revit/CAD production forclarity and technical completeness.
- Maintaincompliance with applicable codes, standards, bylaws, and authorityrequirements throughout design and documentation phases.
- Directthe development and execution of design review and QA/QC processes forproject documentation and deliverables.
- Integratesustainable design strategies in all phases; LEED, Passive House, orother accreditation is considered an asset.
Project Support + Coordination
- Manageproject execution from start to finish, including planning, scheduling,budgeting, scope definition, resourcing, and profitability.
- Managecontracts with clients and subconsultants.
- Supportmarketing team with the development of proposals and fees.
- Establishand adhere to office expectations for financial performance, staffingefficiency, and project milestones.
- Leadregular internal project meetings and communicate status updates toOperations and the Partner-in-Charge, at minimum monthly.
- Coordinateand oversee project activities, ensuring alignment with office ProjectDelivery processes, filing systems, and documentation standards.
- Attendsite meetings, perform site reviews, and manage contract administrationactivities such as reviewing shop drawings, issuing site instructions, andaddressing RFIs.
- Prepareand manage authority submission packages, including zoning, SPA, andbuilding permit approvals.
- Identifyand manage project risks, escalate issues as required, and implement mitigationstrategies.
- Ensureall project work complies with health and safety policies and applicablelegal requirements.
- Contributeto the development of proposals and business development initiatives forthe studio.
Team + Culture
- Provideleadership and direction to project teams, maintaining a collaborative,respectful, and accountable work environment.
- Mentorjunior and intermediate staff, offering guidance on professionaldevelopment and project execution.
- Supportinternal team resourcing and workload allocation in collaboration withOperations and studio leadership.
- Participatein employee evaluations, offering constructive feedback and supportingstaff advancement within the firm.
- Promoteand model an office culture of inclusion, design excellence, andprofessional integrity.
- Representthe firm at client meetings, public presentations, and industry events,supporting the firm’s reputation and presence in the architecturalcommunity.
- Contributeto maintaining and improving strong policies, procedures, and systems forthe office/firm.
- Ableto work in a collaborative, in-office environment (100% in-office presencerequired to support direct team engagement and effective cross-functionalcoordination).
Qualifications
- Professionaldegree in Architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- 10+years of architectural experience with increasing responsibility; proventrack record leading complex building projects.
- Registered(or eligible for registration) with the OAA, AAA, AIBC, or anotherCanadian architectural association.
- Demonstratedproject management skills, including scope, schedule, resource, andfinancial oversight.
- Advancedproficiency with BIM platforms, particularly Revit; familiarity withAutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office and Vantagepoint (Deltek).
- Knowledgeof local construction systems, sustainable building practices, technicaldetailing, and QA/QC methodologies.
- Experiencepreparing construction tender documents and coordinating authoritysubmissions.
- Strongexperience with internal design reviews, quality control, andclient-facing coordination.
- PMPcertification is considered an asset.
- Abilityto manage multiple priorities and lead multidisciplinary teams withclarity and professionalism.
- Excellentwritten, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingnessand ability to travel for site visits, client meetings, and professionaldevelopment as needed
- Representthe firm in the industry to advance the company’s interest and profile.
- Support the firm's professionalreputation through project and industry engagement activities.
