Position: Security Officer

Site: St Demetrius Residence

Status: Part Time

Hours: Saturday & Sunday (0800 - 2000)

Pay Rate: $18.40 per hour

Site Description: St. Demetrius Residence is located in a lovely residential area in the West end of Toronto, west of Scarlett Road, east of Royal York Road, north of Eglinton Avenue. St. Demetrius Residence is a 15-story, 259-unit, independent seniors apartment. Residents are aged 65 years and over. The complex offers several apartment layouts, including a small bachelor, large bachelor and one and two bedroom units.

Description: Working on assigned shifts, you will provide proactive and reactive security patrols and respond to incidents. You will be required to write reports and investigate routine incidents, as well as respond to emergencies in a quick and efficient manner. In this role, it is essential that you are physically fit and able to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensuring compliance with the standards, rules, and regulations at the Property
• Perform highly visible patrols of assigned patrol areas/zones (by foot)
• Normal physical activity characterized by extended periods of walking and standing, periodic sitting, kneeling, bending, and use of basic motor skills
• Maintain compliance with and enforce property standards, rules, and regulations in a reasonable manner
• Able to use tact and diplomacy in dealings across a range of settings and situations
• Solid understanding of emergency and standard operating procedures
• Deal with trespassers and unauthorized persons found on the property in a fair and safe manner by enforcing the Trespass to Property Act
• Assist with Fire & Life Safety inspections
• Investigate incidents and occurrences
• Draft detailed incident and occurrence reports
• Other duties as outlined by management

Qualifications

• Must be willing and able to stand, walk, patrol by foot and vehicle for extended periods (8-12 hours)
• Must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must have a strong command and fluency in the English language
• Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment both indoors and outdoors as required.
• Must be able to handle stress and pressure and make a sound decision under duress
• Must be comfortable working in a busy, highly populated area
• Must demonstrate high attention to detail / observational awareness
• Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
• Legally authorized to work in Canada
