Seasonal Forest & Park Supervisor II – Middlesex Fells Reservation

Location: Middlesex Fells Reservation, Massachusetts

Start Date: 12/14/2025

End Date: 03/21/2026

Work Hours: 40 hour week; shift varies; weekends and holidays required.

Positions: 1

Salary Range: $54,530.06 – $74,302.80 yearly

Less than 90 days of employment will be considered a short‑term seasonal position; salary rates for short‑term positions will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the maintenance of assigned recreational areas, including grounds maintenance, building and equipment maintenance, and removal of hazardous trees or limbs.
  • Inspects state‑operated forest and park recreational areas and facilities to determine suitability for public use, ensures compliance with safety standards, and determines maintenance needs.
  • Patrols recreational areas and facilities to maintain security and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Issues permits or gives permission for the use of recreational facilities, park areas, etc., and collects related fees.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports concerning assigned work to provide information and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Organizes and implements recreational and cultural programs, including sports competitions, nature walks, shows, for visitors to the parks.
  • Coordinates the activities and work of volunteers, court‑referred individuals, etc.
  • Determines supply needs; operates and performs routine maintenance on various types of equipment and vehicles; provides information to the public; interviews candidates for employment; provides on‑the‑job training; and uses small hand tools.
  • Monitors the operation, administration, and maintenance of a major recreation area with one or more satellite areas or a heritage park consisting of a visitors center, extensive grounds and multiple recreational facilities including performance stages, boathouses, etc.
  • Represents the agency at meetings and conferences with representatives of federal, state and municipal agencies and community and other groups to provide information concerning agency objectives and to obtain cooperation in achieving those goals and resolving problems.
  • Prepares budgets for assigned areas by projecting resource needs and preparing required documentation for the agency’s budget request.
  • Initiates requests for capital outlay funds and monitors capital outlay expenditures.
  • Oversees waterfront staff, manages lifeguard work schedules, and helps enforce waterfront safety regulations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, technical or professional experience in the field of forestry, parks or recreational management and at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • An Associate’s degree or higher with major in forestry, natural resources, management or parks and/or recreation management may substitute up to two years of required experience.
  • Current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
