Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is inviting applications for the full-time contract position of a Sales Floor Lead. This is a opportunity to join a dynamic team that supports the transformative power of dance for all ages and abilities.

About The Shoe Room: The Shoe Room, a ballet boutique based in Toronto, was founded in 1998 by Canada’s National Ballet School. Proceeds support NBS programs that offer meaningful dance experiences to people of all ages and abilities. The boutique holds over 8,000 pairs of pointe shoes and offers a wide selection in Canada. Our expert fitters provide one-on-one fittings and virtual fittings to studios around the globe. Our dancewear collections include Canadian designers and inclusive styles that balance fit and functionality with style.

Your Role

As a Sales Floor Lead, you will support the management team in retail operations at NBS’ The Shoe Room through sales staff supervision and training, daily cleaning, customer service, opening and closing procedures, and by contributing to the overall success of the department’s goals.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve customers by answering questions, delivering product knowledge, and processing transactions including approving returns/defects and handling customer complaints
  • Lead team to maintain a safe and clean store/working environment
  • Participate in store opening/closing procedures and cash exchanges as needed
  • Offer input to amend procedures, guidelines and operation manuals
  • Contribute to inventory maintenance and yearly inventory count
  • Contribute to visual merchandise changes within the store and stocking store displays/racks and refolding or steaming items with direction as needed
  • Aid in training new employees in standard store operations and procedures as needed under guidance from Key Holder/Department Manager
  • Ongoing supervision of staff
  • Contribute to team effort by participating in additional revenue-generating activities such as pop-up shops or NBS events as required
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Skills / Experience
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of retail experience required and experience with supervision duties an asset
  • Knowledge of dancewear/shoes and dance training
  • Experience with POS and inventory systems
  • Good knowledge of cash handling and transaction processing
  • Ability to communicate professionally and clearly
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional demeanor
  • High proficiency in English required, with proficiency in other language(s) considered an asset
  • Novice ability with Microsoft Office

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse / Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department at NBS.
