Job description

Job Title: Research Technician

The Research Technician will support long-term specialized platforms for environmental research at the Ontario Crops Research Center - Elora. Specifically, the role involves managing the CFI/MRI funded soil lysimeters (70%) and the micrometeorological greenhouse gas monitoring station (30%).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of field instrumentation related to these research platforms. These platforms are utilized by faculty and graduate students, and the incumbent will collaborate with researchers to optimize the use of facilities and the research conducted.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Environmental Sciences, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines, with 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Class G Driver's license.
  • Training in sensor calibration and computer/datalogger programming.
  • Experience with field work, including deployment of environmental instruments for atmospheric measurements.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment (e.g., multimeters, power supplies) and environmental equipment (e.g., lysimeters, sonic anemometers). Experience with agricultural farm equipment (tractors, mowers) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
