Research Technician - Level 3 Companion Animal

The Research Technician III (“RT III”) demonstrates advanced participation in study procedures, requiring keen attention to detail and higher technical skills than Level II roles. The RT III operates with minimal supervision, handling study duties independently, including documentation, setup, and execution, with a clear understanding of study objectives and protocol variations.

This position requires a higher level of understanding of animal health.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Leading assigned in vivo study procedures in the Companion Animal Department.
  2. Recording and documenting experimental details with integrity, ethics, and accuracy.
  3. Assisting in data summary reports, data entry, and quality control.
  4. Performing husbandry duties ensuring proper animal care according to CCAC guidelines and SOPs.
  5. Leading and working within a team to ensure high-quality project completion.
  6. Maintaining inventory of supplies.
  7. Assisting in the maintenance and operation of the animal facility in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
  8. Participating in internal committees (e.g., animal care, health and safety).
  9. Explaining techniques to new employees and visitors.
  10. Training staff on procedures as appropriate.
  11. Performing other duties as assigned.
Duties Associated with the Companion Animal Department (CAD)
  1. Operating centrifuges and performing advanced blood separation.
  2. Restraining animals for procedures.
  3. Basic Procedures: drug administrations (oral, SC), fecal and urine collection, body weights, health observations, heart rate acquisition, study feed preparation.
  4. Advanced Procedures: drug administrations (IM, IV, gavage), QMR, sedation, blood collection, blood pressure measurement, anesthetic monitoring, veterinary treatments, drug formulation, body condition scoring, euthanasia, dentistry, CSF collection, cognitive testing, behavioral/activity testing, data management, and other duties as necessary.
