General Purpose

The Soil & Nutrient Section of the Agriculture and Food Laboratory is seeking a qualified individual to play a key role in supporting Laboratory Services Division’s values: Client Centered, Integrity, Individuals Matter, Shared Responsibility, and Committed to Evolving.

Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide a supporting role involving the preparation of soil, plant and feed samples for analysis and determination of soil physical properties. Duties include: weighing, drying, grinding, sieving and, extraction of soil, plant and feed samples; creating electronic worksheets; tracking inventory; sample disposal; maintaining general laboratory cleanliness; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two-year Community College in a Laboratory Technician program, combined with one year of relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated working experience in a high volume, fast paced, time-sensitive environment;
  • Experience in sample preparation of soil, plant and feed samples;
  • Good understanding of laboratory health & safety practices and WHMIS;
  • Excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Proven experience with visual observation and attention to quality and detail;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhering to strict deadlines.

Hours of work are 35 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday and/or Monday to Friday.
