Parkwood Institute Mental Health Float Pool – 1 Registered Practical Nurse position

Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care – London, ON

Full Time

Salary Range: $38.80 – $39.19 /hour

St. Joseph’s Health Care welcomes candidates eligible for the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN). This program offers $25,000 in grant funding to eligible RPNs/RNs/Nurse Practitioners in exchange for a two‑year full‑time commitment. New graduate applicants are encouraged to register and apply through the NGG portal.

The Mental Health Care Program at the Parkwood Institute serves patients with serious mental illness across the continuum. The Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Model guides our work, emphasizing client and family involvement, choice, and a range of services to meet treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs. Our inpatient population includes Dual Diagnosis, Geriatric, and Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation programs.

The float pool will provide support across all inpatient programs, assisting with clinical duties, assessment, and patient care.

Essential Qualifications
  • Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the application of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery framework
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act
  • In-depth knowledge of major illness from a biopsychosocial perspective
  • Proficiency in pharmacology and medication administration
  • Experience with the special needs of specialty mental health populations with severe and persistent mental illness, responsive behaviours, and co‑morbid medical conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and document the nursing process
  • Ability to establish positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively as a team member
  • Leadership experience in team and family conferences and clinical activities
  • Collaborative working ability with regulated and non‑regulated inter‑professional team members
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
  • Attention to ensuring a safe work environment for self, patients, and others
  • Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position, including heavy lifting, bending, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French is an asset
  • In the process of completing Canadian Psychiatry and Mental Health Certification courses
  • Understanding of the PIECES framework and a GPA alignment
  • Knowledge of counseling and treatment modalities (CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, problem‑solving therapy)
Teaching and Research
  • As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role‑related teaching and research activities in addition to clinical duties.
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), hepatitis B, COVID‑19, and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of tuberculosis skin testing.
