The QFS Manager provides leadership and is responsible for supervising all quality, food, and feed safety related matters for the facility. The role of Quality and Food Safety is to ensure controls are in place to meet customer and regulatory requirements for the products produced. They will ensure the integrity and safety of food products throughout the manufacturing process, utilizing various standards and established testing methods, operating procedures, and adherence to protocols and policies.

Position details:

The QFS manager is responsible for coordination and monitoring of work activities of associates and third parties engaged in performing chemical, physical, and microbiological tests required for quality control of processes, environment, and products, with an emphasis on safety and proficiency. They will serve on various cross-functional teams and interact with internal and external groups including customers, suppliers, and auditors.

The scope of the following quality and food safety responsibilities pertains to Bunge facilities with more than a single processing platform and/or low/medium risk profile finished products.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Ensure lab procedures conform to AOCS Official methods; train personnel as required to maintain conformance.
  • Monitor lab results to ensure raw and finished products meet specifications; resolve non-compliance issues with production and R&D personnel.
  • Compile and analyze test data to determine process efficiency and diagnose malfunctions in collaboration with Operations.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to develop and test custom products and analyze nonstandard tests.
  • Represent the company during audits, inspections, and with external regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC and production teams to meet customer expectations and ensure plant inspections are conducted properly.
  • Maintain calibration and procurement of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Review supplier information for product conformance and compliance.
  • Manage the facility's Food Defense Plan.
  • Lead the food Safety Team and manage HACCP/Food Safety Plan updates and recall programs.
  • Conduct annual Food Safety GMP training for employees.
  • Oversee plant sanitation programs and inspections, providing recommendations.
  • Serve as primary contact for Lab Information Management System (LIMS, SAP, etc.) issues.
  • Respond promptly to customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Utilize TraceGains for supplier/vendor management.
  • Coordinate testing and assessment of QFA systems and conduct audits of Food Safety Plans.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include managing 4+ employees in the Quality Assurance department, conducting coaching, performance appraisals, and ensuring safety compliance.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry preferred.
  • Minimum five years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • PCQI certification.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and standards for food and feed manufacturing.
  • Practical experience in GMPs, Pest Control, and Internal Audits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, and other software.
  • Ability to promote safe work practices and excellent communication skills.
  • Minimal travel required.
