Job description

KGS Group is seeking aProject Managerto join our team supporting projects in our Thunder Bay Office.

About Us

We are KGS Group, an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients throughout North America. We’re different than traditional engineering firms. We believe a commitment to lasting relationships is just as critical as the expertise applied in our work. To us that means we put our clients and people first. We have the discipline to consistently deliver KGS Quality, never taking the easy way out. We always look closer and dig deeper. And no matter the project, we care enough to do it right.

As an employee-owned company, we’re invested in our work and our people. Working with us means you’ll be part of some of the most interesting projects across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. With the extensive, wide-ranging expertise within our company, you’ll have countless opportunities to learn and grow.

The Role

As KGS Group continues to develop strong technical delivery teams, we are looking to support our teams with focused project management support. This role would lead the day-to-day project management tasks, manage scheduling and contract administration, gather and manage priorities, and deliverable tracking for the group. You will be working in a friendly and collaborative environment with regular direct interfacing with clients and contractors. This is an in-office position.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Project management services related to internal design projects.
  • Project-Management-for-Hire services such as Owner’s Engineer or Owner’s Advocate roles.
  • Providing project services support – scheduling, estimating, procurement support, technical administration – to other project managers and internal stakeholders.
  • Assisting in the development project management tools, templates, and processes.
  • Writing and issuing project communications: emails, memos, reports, etc.
  • Developing or modifying project commercial documents and participating in procurement processes.
  • Project-related field services such as inspection, auditing, supervision, quality assurance, safety, and contractor management.
  • Office-related construction services such as invoice review and payment certification, schedule updates, permitting submissions, etc.
  • Leveraging both training and experience, provide or coordinate multi-disciplinary technical and constructability review of drawings, specifications, work plans, etc.
  • It is not anticipated that the Project Manager will be asked to conduct engineering design and seal deliverables such as drawings, etc. That said, the project manager should have a very strong technical background in engineering and construction so that they can provide value to both internal and external clients in terms of non-design technical advice, drawing review, project scoping, and project execution.
  • Provide mentorship to junior project coordinators, other junior staff, and administrative staff.
  • Provide safety leadership both externally and internally.
  • Champion and lead project management-related and/or multidiscipline engineering pursuits.
  • Assist with project-related business development.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant with the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in project management, project engineering, or construction management.
  • Must have degree in Engineering (B.Sc.) from recognized university or technologist diploma and suitable experience. Successful candidate should be registered as a P.Eng. in Ontario or carry designations such as ASctT, C.E.T, or equivalent. Engineering disciplines preferred include civil or structural. Strong candidates with experience in other traditional engineering disciplines or with suitable multidiscipline engineering project management experience will be considered.
  • Ability to travel and service multiple concurrent project sites within, and possibly outside, Ontario.
  • A task-oriented, organized, and self-motivated personality with a demonstrated ability to take ownership of their work, maintain project momentum, and drive projects to completion.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently, and within tight timelines.
  • Strong diplomacy and change-management skills. Ability to distinguish critical from non-critical elements and both communicate and chart a forward path.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability/willingness to undergo federal and provincial security clearance checks.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

KGS Group is an employee-owned, equal opportunity company offering an excellent compensation and benefits package.
