Job description
Primary Purpose of Position

To develop a proactive manufacturing environment to better serve our customers and benefit our stakeholders. The primary responsibility will be to work with all the management team to achieve the company goals while committed to the philosophy that recognizes the worth of every employee and the value of every customer. This position reports to Production Manager.

Major Responsibilities of Position
  • Safety and Housekeeping: 6S housekeeping audits. Develop standards and maintain. Correct all safety audit items in a timely manner. Ensure all equipment maintained to standard. Review all accidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Quality performance: Establish improvement process to error-proof all operations. Root-cause all items found in containment and eliminate. Goal is to have first time quality at production operation. Establish training plan for all employees (put on matrix).
  • Uptime improvements: Establish plans through the improvement teams and monitor. Ensure plan is tracked to a timeline and met.
  • Customer schedules: Establish with materials windows to meet all shipping requirements
  • Scrap and material utilization: Establish base line for all operations. Use continuous improvement teams to establish actions. Monitor improvement process.
  • Manpower: Conduct review of all non-standard operations. Conduct weekly reviews of overtime required and report to Human Resources. Develop action plan and timeline to eliminate all non-budget jobs.
  • Employee relations: Establish regular meeting schedules for all employees. Establish performance review process for these meetings. Include employees in the problem solving process. Cross train employees
  • ERT: lead and encourage participation in the Emergency Response Team
  • Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise.

  • Professional Development, Performance Evaluation, Hiring and Termination recommendations within the Production team in conjunction with Human Resources.

  • Customer of 3rd Party Temporary Employment Agencies for the provision of temporary labour.
  • Direct report to Production Manager ensuring continuous communication in all areas of responsibility
  • Supplier and customer to Shipping Department for customer releases and setting daily production priorities to ensure customer releases are achieved in conjunction with Production Manager.
  • Customer of Quality Team – daily communication with regard to internal and external quality concerns, assisting in customer 8Ds and corrective actions.
  • Production Team Members – maintain positive employee relations with all direct and in‑direct reports.
  • CI group – working together on improving existing process, supporting new launches through CI activities
Educational and Certification Background
  • 1 – Bachelors’ Degree in Manufacturing or Engineering or Technical Diploma – Highly Desirable
  • 2 – 6 Sigma Black Belt – Desirable
  • 3 – Minimum of 5 years’ progressive supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment – Essential
  • 4 – Formal leadership training (Ivey or similar) – Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience in modern manufacturing systems.

  • Knowledge of die casting and secondary operations
