We are currently seeking Process Control Operators to join our Alberta Operations located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. This role is integral to optimizing plant performance and ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.

About Alberta Operations

Dow's Fort Saskatchewan site houses four world-scale production units specializing in hydrocarbons, ethylene, polyethylene, and electricity generation. As one of Canadas largest petrochemical facilities, it supports global Dow customers while driving initiatives like the Path2Zero (P2Z) program, which aims to create the worlds first net-zero emissions site.

Role Overview

As a Process Control Operator, you will:

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize plant equipment and systems.
  • Operate and adjust process controls to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct field checks, equipment maintenance, and system adjustments.
  • Uphold Dows Life Critical Standards for safe operations.
  • Support plant commissioning and participate in advanced training programs.
Operational Areas

Operators may be assigned to one of the following areas:

1. Hydrocarbons
  • Processes include fractional distillation, cracking furnaces, steam turbines, cryogenics, and water treatment.
  • Potential to pursue 3rd and 2nd Class Power Engineer certifications.
  • Teams consist of approximately 10+ operators.
2. Solution Polyethylene
  • Handles flammable hydrocarbons, flash drums, and vacuum systems.
  • On-shift operators can gain 3rd Class certification.
  • Teams typically include 6 operators.
3. Gas Phase Polyethylene
  • Focus on catalyst-driven gas-phase polyethylene production.
  • Operators work towards 4th Class certification and undergo training in multiple locations, including Alberta and Louisiana.
  • Teams consist of approximately 4 operators.
4. Power and Utilities
  • Operates natural gas/hydrogen cogeneration units, steam generators, and water treatment systems.
  • Provides opportunities to attain 3rd and 2nd Class certifications.
  • Teams consist of approximately 5 operators.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment performance.
  • Collaborate within a team-oriented environment.
  • Adhere to 12-hour rotating shift schedules upon plant startup.
  • Participate in an intensive 3-year training program.
  • Support emergency response and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments (e.g., confined spaces, heights, extreme conditions).
  • Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs and wear full protective equipment.
  • Must qualify for Emergency Response Brigade training, including live fire and rope rescue operations.
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Progress towards ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering certification.
    • Valid Canadian Driver's License.
    • Ability to legally work in Canada.
  • Preferred:
    • Related technical diploma (e.g., Chemical or Power Engineering Technology).
    • One or more years of relevant experience.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
