Qualifications

Overview

Our Canadian operations are expanding with a 170,000 square foot fiberglass manufacturing facility on a 148-acre site in Bath, Loyalist Township in Ontario, Canada! This new facility will enable us to more effectively and efficiently serve markets in the eastern half of Canada, as well as the Northeast and upper Midwest of the United States, producing pools for its fiberglass brands, including Latham and Narellan Pools.

Role overview / Responsibilities

The pilot driver is required to safely operate a pilot vehicle equipped with warning lights and flags to escort the delivery truck hauling over-dimensional loads on local and provincial highways. The pilot vehicle travels in front or behind the over-dimensional vehicle to warn other road users of the presence of an oversized vehicle, and with 2-way communication devices, informs the delivery driver of any load shift or any potential hazards such as narrow bridges, low-hanging trees, lane shift, parked cars, pedestrians, etc. along the delivery route.

Pilot drivers are also an essential part of our production team, especially when not engaged in deliveries. In this role, the pilot driver will assist the team in detailing and polishing the pools during their final stage, ensuring they are fully prepared for shipping.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Communicate with the delivery driver about load shifts and potential hazards along the route.
  • Assist the production team in detailing and polishing pools during the final stage to ensure readiness for shipping.
  • Support facility maintenance and production activities as needed during off-peak delivery periods.
Requirements
  • Valid Ontario Class G or higher driver’s license
  • Minimum 3 years driving experience.
  • Clean driving record with a driver's abstract.
  • Knowledge of cargo securement, pre-trip inspections and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills, as you will be representing the company on the road and onsite.
  • Detailing experience with boats and/or automobiles – preferred but not necessary
  • Ability to travel for long periods of time, some overnight trips are required.
  • Ability to use a smartphone and a GPS.
  • Mechanically inclined. Relevant experience and ability to work with different hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, minor blueprints, and plans.
  • Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to learn new things, as you may be asked to detail or do small repairs to a pool onsite, and/or be part of the manufacturing team at our facility during the off-season, and/or while no performing deliveries
  • Attitude to be flexible with work, as the work needs may be fluid from day to day during the season.
  • Able to work with the crane/yard team moving pools for production to staging areas
  • Able to use a pressure washer, caulking gun, electric polishers, and help with detailing/outfitting team to prepare pools for next-day delivery
  • Able to work outdoors in all seasons and around heavy equipment, cranes, telehandlers, and forklifts.
  • During slow delivery periods, you will assist with facility maintenance and/or become part of the production team, and this will require you to have the ability to wear a respirator while working on the production of pools
