Job summary

Quilt is seeking a compassionate Personal Support Worker to assist a gentleman living independently in Kingston, Ontario. You will provide personal care, mobility support, medication reminders, and accompany him to medical appointments, while communicating with his daughters to ensure continuity of care.

The role emphasizes reliability, calm presence, and ability to manage cognitive changes or hallucinations, with a driver’s license preferred for transportation during visits.

Qualifications

• Certified PSW with experience supporting clients with Parkinson's disease.
• Reliable and consistent caregiver with calm, patient energy.
• Strong communication with family members; able to follow care plans.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care including bathing, dressing, and incontinence care.
• Administer medications using the client's dispenser and ensure doses are taken.
• Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding as needed.
• Perform light housekeeping and laundry; manage household items.
• Provide cognitive support with memory prompts and gentle redirection.
• Assist with mobility using a walker or wheelchair.
• Accompany to medical appointments via taxi or Uber.
• Communicate regularly with family about condition and care needs.
• Monitor safety and wellbeing during visits.

Personal Support Worker - Mowat Ave., Kingston, ON - CAD$162.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate, proactive caregiver for a gentleman living independently in his home. He has Parkinson's disease and is currently undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer. He experiences mobility challenges, vision and hearing impairments, occasional hallucinations related to his condition, and requires assistance with daily living activities. His daughters live out of province (Calgary and Denver) and need reliable, consistent support to bridge the gap until assisted living arrangements can be finalized.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with personal care including bathing, dressing, and incontinence care (he wears Depends)
• Administer medications using his automatic dispenser and ensure he takes all prescribed doses
• Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding as needed
• Perform light housekeeping including laundry, tidying, and disposing of expired food items
• Provide cognitive support through memory prompts and gentle redirection
• Assist with mobility support as he uses a walker or wheelchair
• Troubleshoot simple household issues (TV remote, etc.)
• Accompany him to medical appointments via taxi or Uber
• Communicate regularly with family members about his condition and care needs
• Monitor safety and wellbeing throughout visits

• Certified PSW with experience supporting clients with Parkinson's disease
• Someone who makes clients feel comfortable and brings calm, patient energy
• Reliable and consistent - able to commit to a regular weekly schedule
• Takes initiative without needing constant direction
• Strong communication skills with family members
• Experience with clients who have cognitive changes or hallucinations
• Comfortable working with clients who have vision and hearing impairments
• Valid driver's license for accompanying to appointments
