Job description

Personal Support Worker - Owen Sound, ON - CAD$1,300.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 55-year-old woman living with MS in Owen Sound. She uses a wheelchair and suprapubic catheter, and the home is fully equipped with accessibility features including wide doorways, an elevator, a lift-to-stand device, proper wheelchairs, commode chairs, and an accessible shower with flat entry. The family has invested significantly in creating a safe, comfortable environment. Her husband, who is 67 and recovering from a heart attack, needs reliable support to ensure his wife receives consistent care, particularly in the evenings when he finds transfers more challenging.

Responsibilities:

Evening shifts focus on bedtime routines: transferring from wheelchair to bed using the lift-to-stand device, changing clothes, and preparing for bed. Each evening visit takes approximately 45 minutes. Morning shifts involve getting out of bed using the lift-to-stand, showering in the accessible bathroom, dressing, and personal care, taking approximately 1.5-2 hours. The client requires moderate to full physical support with all transfers, bathing, dressing, and toileting. A private nurse handles all medical tasks including catheter changes, so caregivers focus solely on personal care and mobility assistance.

What We're Looking For:

Experience with mobility equipment, particularly lift-to-stand devices and wheelchairs, is essential. The ideal caregiver is calm, patient, reliable, and skilled in providing full physical support during transfers and personal care. The client is young, easy to work with, not demanding, and values her independence as much as possible. We need someone who respects that while providing necessary hands-on assistance. English-speaking caregivers preferred. This is a long-term position with a family committed to consistency and building a strong caregiver relationship.

Schedule:

Primarily evening shifts, 5-6 nights per week (Monday through Saturday), arriving between 8:00-9:00 PM for approximately 45-minute visits. Additionally, 1-2 morning shifts per week, arriving between 8:30-9:30 AM for 1.5-2 hour visits. Schedule flexibility exists around the family's existing private nurse appointments. Occasional overnight support may be needed when the husband travels, with advance notice provided. The family is committed to providing consistent hours and working collaboratively on scheduling.
