Job description

Personal Support Worker - Dundas, ON - CAD$260.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 90-year-old woman living independently at home with her cat in Dundas, Ontario (just outside Hamilton). She has progressing Alzheimer's disease and is transitioning into a new stage where her memory is declining and she requires more consistent support. She values routine and responds well to predictable schedules—when care is consistent, she remains calm and cooperative. She enjoys her independence, loves her cat, and prefers a quiet home environment without excessive stimulation.

Responsibilities:

Your primary role will be providing morning support to establish a reliable daily routine. Tasks include:

  • Assisting with morning hygiene and dressing
  • Preparing and serving breakfast
  • Providing toileting support and incontinence care as needed
  • Administering medication reminders
  • Light housekeeping (tidying, possibly starting a load of laundry)
  • Offering memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support
  • Providing mobility assistance and transfer support as needed
  • Occasional short walks to the end of the driveway (while being mindful not to encourage independent wandering)
  • Ensuring safety and companionship throughout the visit

The family is working toward long-term care placement (approximately two years out) and needs reliable interim support. There may be occasional requests for extended hours or overnight coverage when the primary family caregiver travels—advance notice will always be provided.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone who is reliable, consistent, and takes initiative. The ideal caregiver understands dementia care and the importance of routine for individuals with Alzheimer's. You should be patient, calm, and comfortable providing personal care including toileting assistance. Strong communication skills are essential—the family values clear updates and dependability. Experience with mobility support, medication reminders, and memory care is required. English-speaking caregivers only. Comfort around cats is necessary.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, with a flexible arrival window between 8:00-10:00 AM or 8:30-10:30 AM. Each visit will be approximately 2 hours. The family manages weekend care independently but may require occasional additional coverage with advance notice.
