Job description

Description
About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 58-year-old gentleman living in a beautiful waterfront home in Picton, Ontario. He was recently placed on the liver transplant list due to end-stage liver disease and requires support while managing his condition. He uses a walker due to mobility challenges from bone-on-bone issues in both knees and no longer drives. He's capable and knows his limits, but benefits from having an extra set of eyes and hands around. He enjoys conversation and connecting with people.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and supervise during bathing/showering for safety (he can bathe independently but needs someone present in case of emergency)
  • Provide medication reminders (medications are in blister packs)
  • Assist with light meal preparation including reheating pre-prepared meals
  • Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed (liver disease can occasionally cause confusion)
  • Light housekeeping to maintain a hygienic living space (towels, tidying)
  • Accompany to medical appointments in Belleville or Picton when needed
  • Provide companionship and engage in conversation
  • Monitor overall wellbeing and safety throughout the visit
What We're Looking For:
  • Experience supporting clients with mobility aids (walker/wheelchair)
  • Comfortable with personal care supervision and bathing safety
  • Understanding of cognitive support needs including memory prompts and redirection
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for the 25-minute drive from Picton
  • Patient, calm demeanor with positive energy
  • Reliable and consistent
  • Takes initiative when needed
  • Communicates clearly with family
  • Makes the client feel comfortable and respected
Schedule:

Two visits per week (Tuesdays and Fridays) from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The morning timeframe works best as he has more energy earlier in the day. Consistency is important as his spouse also cares for her mother in Kingston and needs reliable support to manage both responsibilities.

The home is located at the far eastern end of Prince Edward County with beautiful water views. It's a peaceful, single-level living environment with bathroom access on the main floor.
