Job summary

BC Ferries is seeking a Payroll Manager in Victoria to lead a high-performing payroll team through a large unionized environment, ensuring accurate and timely pay while complying with collective agreements, pension requirements and tax regulations. This role drives modernization of payroll practices and analytics.

You will partner with Finance, People Experience, Labour Relations, Scheduling Services and IT to resolve complex payroll matters, implement changes, and support system enhancements,

Qualifications

  • CPM designation from the National Payroll Institute.
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive management experience in a large payroll environment.
  • Extensive experience managing payroll for a unionized workforce.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, pension administration and employment standards.
  • Leadership experience and ability to develop high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing payroll team and oversee hiring, onboarding and training.
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll operations ensuring accurate, timely pay with proper deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, pensions, tax regulations and collective agreements.
  • Lead month-end, year-end activities and external audit support.
  • Collaborate with Finance, People Experience, Labour Relations, Scheduling Services, Accounting & Reporting and IT on payroll matters and system enhancements.
  • Develop and implement payroll strategies, policies and procedures to improve governance and efficiency.
  • Manage departmental budget and monitor internal controls and risk.
  • Develop payroll analytics and reporting to support informed decision-making.
  • Act as payroll subject matter expert and present recommendations to senior leadership.
