Job description

Location: Lower Mainland, British Columbia — Field Based

Employment Type: Full-time; one of the positions requires Cantonese and/or Mandarin fluency

The Opportunity

Our client, NSD Disposal is a local waste and recycling company serving businesses across the Lower Mainland. We are hiring a field-based sales representative to build new commercial relationships within an assigned territory. This is an active prospecting role. Most of your day will be spent driving through your territory, walking into businesses, speaking with decision-makers, and following up on opportunities. It is not an office-based or inbound-only sales position.

The service is straightforward, but success requires consistency. Customers often compare providers on price, service, and responsiveness. You will receive training, ride-alongs, selected leads, and coaching, but you must be comfortable creating most of your own opportunities and hearing no regularly without losing momentum.

What Your Day Will Look Like
  • Plan a daily route through your assigned Lower Mainland territory and visit commercial prospects in person.
  • Full-time position (40 hrs/week, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday)
  • Walk into businesses, identify the appropriate decision-maker, start conversations, and uncover current or future waste-service needs which includes preparing service options, pricing, and contracts accurately.
  • Build a pipeline that includes immediate placements and longer-term contracts that begin when an existing agreement expires.
  • Follow up consistently by phone and email and keep prospect and contract information current.
  • Work with the Sales Manager and other representatives on coaching, multi-location accounts, and cross-territory lead handoffs.
  • Participate in a weekly sales huddle and share useful territory information, leads, and lessons with the team.
What Will Help You Succeed
  • You are comfortable spending most of the workday independently and on the road.
  • You can confidently enter a business without a scheduled appointment and start a respectful conversation.
  • You are resilient, self-directed, and able to maintain activity after rejection or a difficult day.
  • You are personable and credible with owners, managers, and front-line staff.
  • You follow directions, act on coaching, and complete details accurately.
  • You can read and explain contract terms and stay organized across immediate and future-start opportunities.
  • Sales experience is helpful but not required. We are open to early-career candidates who are coachable and ready for a high-activity field role.
Required
  • A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to drive throughout an assigned territory.
  • Ability to work full time in the field across the Lower Mainland.
  • Clear spoken and written English.

Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese is an asset. (For the bilingual territory posting, professional fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese and English is required to communicate effectively with local businesses.)

Compensation and Support
  • Starting base salary of approximately $45,000 - $50,000, with flexibility based on relevant experience and NSD's approved salary range. Anticipated total compensation ranges from $65,000 - $110,000.
  • Mileage and business expenses covered as per BC’s government regulations.
  • Uncapped commission on new business; paid as a percentage of the customer's monthly service amount, with the percentage increasing based on contract length (ranging from 65% for shorter-term agreements up to 165% for 5-year agreements), plus an additional 20% commission for immediate placements. Commissions are paid when the service starts.
  • A monthly performance bonus is currently valued at $1,100 when the applicable contract target is achieved and additional quarterly bonus for consistent sales throughout the year.
  • A structured six-month ramp up in monthly targets to allow time to adjust to role.
  • Hands-on training and field support, including ride-along with experienced team members and managers.
  • Selected company-generated leads in addition to self-generated prospecting.

This role can be rewarding for someone who likes autonomy, movement, and direct contact with local businesses. You will spend substantial time alone in your vehicle, visiting businesses without appointments, and encounter rejection. We will discuss the day-to-day reality openly during the interview so you can decide whether the environment fits how you work best.
