Job summary

Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound is seeking a Clinical Educator in the QUALITY department. This full-time temporary role supports nursing staff with education, policies, and quality improvement initiatives, including orientation to new technology, medications and procedures.

You will lead educational programs, mentor staff and advance evidence-based practice across the department. The position requires senior perioperative nursing expertise, RN registration in Ontario and teaching

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing or BScN with OR/Perioperative experience.
• Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Certificate in OR/Perioperative Nursing and Post Anesthesia course.
• Proficiency with SurgiNet documentation and ACLS/BCLS as applicable.
• Minimum five years recent OR/Perioperative experience and two years teaching/education experience.

• Plans, develops, facilitates, coordinates and evaluates educational opportunities for nursing staff.
• Provides leadership, clinical coaching/mentoring and staff development at corporate and department levels.
• Supports development of policies, procedures and quality improvement activities.

WAGE RATE: $45.33- $64.87

Reporting to the Manager of Nursing Practice and Education, the Clinical Educator is a professional role model and resource person for nursing staff and other members of the health care team. The Clinical Educator supports the development of policies and procedures and quality improvement work that promote interprofessional, patient-family-centred care and evidence-based practice. The Clinical Educator plans, develops, facilitates, coordinates and evaluates educational opportunities for nursing staff; including orientation and skills development in new technology, medications, documentation and procedures for a broad range of practice competencies based on patient population. The Clinical Educator provides leadership, clinical coaching/mentoring, and educational activities to enhance knowledge transfer and staff development at both a corporate and a department level.

• Master’s Degree in Nursing or BScN with relevant OR/Perioperative experience
• Current Registration as an RN from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Completion of a certificate course in OR/Perioperative Nursing and Post Anesthesia course
• Proficiency and knowledge with SurgiNet documentation
• Current CCU1 or equivalent, Current ACLS
• Canadian Nurses Association CPNc (Canadian Perioperative Nursing Certificate)
• A minimum of five (5) years recent clinical related experience in OR and Perioperative areas
• A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching, competency assessment, program development, facilitation, knowledge of the principles of adult learning and evaluation skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing science theory and CNO standards for Nursing Practice
• Membership in one of the following professional associations: RNAO, ORNAC, OPANA
• Experience facilitating AORN program
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
• Ability to evaluate relevant research and synthesize information to identify and implement best practices
• Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and learner populations with effective facilitation and presentation skills, flexible to teach in different learning environments using traditional and computer-based learning
• Demonstrated effective decision making, problem solving, change management and organizational skills
• Demonstrated computer proficiency in word-processing, computer presentation skills and related technology
• Demonstrated integrity, initiative and commitment to continuing professional development and education
• Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
