Job summary

Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound is seeking a part-time, temporary Registered Nurse for Day Surgery/PACU. The role focuses on the promotion of health, assessment, and delivery of care for patients in Phase I and II recovery within the perianesthesia setting.

Requirements include RN registration, 2+ years PACU/acute care experience, broad surgical background, and recent Post Anaesthetic Course completion. The position supports a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Ontario nursing registration or eligibility.
• Minimum 2 years PACU and acute care nursing experience within the past 5 years.
• Broad surgical experience required in all subspecialties.
• Post Anaesthetic Course completed within last 3 years.
• Current venipuncture and IV meds certifications; PCA and Epidural analgesia experience.

Responsibilities

• Promote health and assess, provide care, and treat health conditions for adults and children in perianesthesia during Phase I and II recovery in Day Surgery and PACU.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient flow and timely recovery.

POSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND

UNION AFFILIATION: ONA

STATUS: PART-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE FEB 2027)

REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT

WAGE RATE: $41.15 - $58.98

Reporting to the Manager Surgical Services, the responsibility of the registered nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, measures to adults and children during phase I and II recovery within the perianesthesia setting in Day Surgery and PACU.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

Required:

• Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
• Minimum 2 years PACU and acute care nursing experience within the past 5 years
• Broad surgical experience required in all subspecialties
• Successful completion of Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
• Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
• Current certification in:o BCLSo Venipuncture to start an IVo IV meds below the drip chambero PCAo Epidural analgesia
• Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
• Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in PACU
• Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
• Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in PACU as required
• Excellent assessment skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals

Preferred

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing
• ACLS
• Care of CVP, endotracheal tubes/ventilated extubation of an endotracheal tube
