Job summary

Brightshores Health System seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the Operating Room, Surgical Day Care and Post‑Anaesthetic Care Unit in Meaford, Ontario. The role supports perioperative patients, collaborates with the healthcare team, and ensures safety and high‑quality care.

You will scrub and circulate across services, maintain competencies, and participate in cross-training to meet unit needs. Union ONA; approx end date January 2027; wage range provided.

Qualifications

• Registration or eligibility with Ontario College of Nurses.
• Operating Room certificate or OR experience in last 3 years.
• Post Anaesthetic Course within last 3 years.
• Minimum 2 years PACU nursing experience in past 5 years.
• 2 years recent acute care nursing experience.
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent.
• Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent.
• PACU Certificate.
• Certification in Pneumatic Tourniquet.
• BCLS, venipuncture to start IV, IV meds before drip, ACLS, PALS.
• MS Outlook and Cerner/PowerChart and Surginet skills.
• Ability to scrub and circulate in all services.
• Knowledge of ORNAC standards.
• Team player, adaptable, flexible to shift needs.
• Current Surginet experience and broad surgical experience.
• Willingness to cross-train Day Surgery, PACU, Ambulatory Care.
• Strong assessment, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.

POSITION LOCATION: MEAFORD

UNION AFFILIATION: ONA

STATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE JANUARY 2027)

REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT

WAGE RATE: $41.15 - $58.98

Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, Surgical Day Care and Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit is responsible for the supportive, preventative, therapeutic care needs of patients in the perioperative arenas.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

• Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
• Successful completion of the Operating Room certificate and/or at least 2 years OR experience in the last 3 years
• Successful completion of the Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
• Minimum 2 years PACU nursing experience within the past 5 years
• 2 years’ recent acute care nursing experience
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
• Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
• PACU Certificate
• Certification in Pneumatic Tourniquet
• Current certification in: BCLS, venipuncture to start an IV, IV meds below the drip chamber, ACLS, PALS
• Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (PowerChart and SurgiNet) or equivalent
• Ability to scrub and circulate in all services
• Knowledge of the current ORNAC standards
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
• Ability to function as a team member
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to flex time to meet unit’s needs
• Current experience with Surginet
• Broad surgical experience required
• Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in Day Surgery, PACU and Amb Care
• Excellent assessment skills
